It'd been about a week since Lil and I went to the Pit looking for Sammael's portal. Even though I'd had Maximus, Nathan, and Karen searching every nook and cranny of Hell, I was no closer to finding where my bastard brother moved his portal. It was probably in some remote location in Everly's domain, somewhere it wasn't safe for my allies to search right now.
I'd been trying to spend time feeling out the rest of my Demon Lords, but they seemed to be playing it pretty neutral for the moment. It'd been a miracle we'd gotten Karen on our side so easily. Sammael had made that mistake himself and pushed her to us. If he hadn't come on so strong, she might've wanted to remain neutral as well.
Sammael was in a long game, though, and this wouldn't be solved overnight. I didn't want to make his mistakes and force my Lords to choose between us and inadvertently push them into his waiting arms.
Glancing over my shoulder, I watched Lilith as she spoke to Kane and Jillian via a small portal in front of my couch in my private chambers. We'd been keeping in touch that way, with an almost daily portal visit to both the manor, where our son and his mates lived and ran the Lycan and Vampire empire from and the converted hotel, where our granddaughters and their mates and children lived.
The grandbabies were over at the manor and were being little terrors. Chuckling, I scooted closer and peered through the portal to see them running around, wrestling with each other and trying to destroy anything in reach. Ah, well, that's what boys did.
Medaâs, Talaâs, and Amiâs sons were just over a year now. As I watched them run around and be cute little terrors, I lamented, again, how the time moved so much faster in Hell. We'd missed so much of their lives. Yet, our situation with Sammael made it hard to visit with our family as much as we would've liked. If he'd been the good, loyal brother he should've been, we could've spent most of our time on Earth.
But no, he had to be a backstabbing power-grabber.
I heard my name and took that as a cue to crash their little hellish video chatâmore like a portal chat. Sticking my face in their line of sight, I grinned and winked. âSomeone called?â
Snaking an arm around Lil, I inhaled her intoxicating scent as I kissed her temple. That earned me an eye roll, but it didn't bother me that she continued to pretend she couldn't stand me.
When the dragon had hurt me, I'd felt Lilâs concern and fear. She called out to Wrath of all people. She had to have been desperate to heal me fast to face the Lord that was the most likely to be volatile. Wrath was also the best healer of the bunch, and Lilith had been willing to risk it to heal me.
âHow are things?â Kane asked. My son and his mates knew what we were dealing with.
